Getting Color Right: Understanding G7 Certification
Consistent and accurate color reproduction is important for any printing business. That's why many use G7 certification to ensure their processes align with industry standards. G7 refers to a set of specifications and procedures for calibrating printing devices and proofing systems so they produce consistent color.
There are three levels of G7 certification:
G7 Grayscale Certification - This certifies a print provider can print grayscale images to a common visual appearance. This is the first step towards full G7 color certification.
G7 Master Qualification - This rigorous certification evaluates the entire printing system. It checks that the press, proofs, plates, inks and paper match and allow accurate color communication and reproduction. Less than 1% of print providers meet the requirements for G7 Master Qualification.
G7 ColorSpace - This is the highest level of certification. It means the print provider has a tightly monitored process controls and measurement procedures. ColorSpace certification ensures extremely consistent color quality day after day.
